Descriptif :
The aim of the project was to educate high school pupils about the European Parliament and to promote the understanding of European democratic processes, to foster European citizenship and to encourage active participation in democracy.
The key learning areas included :
- the location and operations of the European Parliament
- the representation and MEP election process
- the roles of the President of the Commission and the President of the Parliament
- the process of proposing and enacting laws.
Activités :
In the class that we reserved for working on the logo, the pupils were divided by the different political houses.
We first studied about the European Union to refresh the knowledge of the pupils. We then went straight to the European Parliament website to learn exactly how the European Parliament works. Most pupils created their own notes, mind maps or speaking presentations. The material was used to create the KAHOOT questions by the pupils.
Some pupils had the opportunity to visit the European Parliament in person. The other pupils realised a virtual tour.
Produits :
During the online live event, pupils had the opportunity to engage in a simulated European Parliament session, allowing them to explore how the EU functions and to understand the process of lawmaking. Pupils proposed their own law drafts. The event not only enhanced pupils’ knowledge about the European Union but also improved their digital skills through active online interaction. It served as a platform for networking, enabling pupils to establish new contacts and exchange ideas. Moreover, the event provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to practice their English.
Impacts :
The project had several significant impacts. It raised pupils’ awareness of the European Union and helped prepare them for future elections, fostering hope for a fairer and more united world.
Pupils not only improved their English skills but also developed and strengthened intercultural relationships, gaining valuable insights from these interactions.
For teachers, the project offered an opportunity to present an important topic in a clear and engaging manner. It also facilitated intercultural exchange, which benefits us both professionally and personally. Through regular discussions and collaboration, we are building a network for future projects together.
Perspectives :
Building on the success of this project, the future holds promising developments. One key goal is to continue fostering awareness about the European Union among pupils and equipping them with the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to engage with European democracy. By preparing them for future elections, we aim to encourage active participation in shaping a fairer and more united world.
Further development of pupils’ English language skills and intercultural relationships will remain a core focus. These skills are essential for navigating a globalised world, and future projects will emphasize deeper exchanges and collaboration between participants from different cultures.
For teachers, the project will continue to serve as a platform for presenting essential topics in innovative ways. We will also strengthen the network of intercultural exchange between teachers, allowing a regular professional dialogue and collaboration on future projects.
